Shotokan training is generally divided into three parts
Kihon - basics, as in stances, breathing, punches, blocks, hand techniques and kicks

Kata - forms or patterns of moves; there are twenty six kata in the Shotokan system

Kumite - sparring, applying the fundamental stances and techniques against an opponent
Most classes will incorporate all of these aspects of training. The level of difficulty of specific exercises is dependent on the student's skill level. Classes will also include theory, dojo etiquette and some of the more philosophical aspects of karate.
